An Implant is a small flexible rod that is placed underneath your skin in the inner area of your upper arm. It releases a progestogen hormone and works for 3 years.
Your doctor will give you a local anesthesia before inserting this device. It will only take 5 minutes.
Very rarely an implant need to be taken off surgically, for miscellaneous reasons:
- Implant hardly or badly inserted
- The rod moved
- Important increase of weight
The ablation is done under general or local anesthesia. A tracking will have been done previous to the removal with ultrasound. Removal incision is larger than for insertion or implant change (i.e. 3 to 5 cm). Suture is realized with absorbable materiel. You will be able to leave the hospital by the afternoon.
