Labiaplasty

Indications and surgical procedure:

Vulve

Labiaplasty, plastic surgery of the labia minora, is performed in order to change the size or shape of the labia, typically making them smaller of correcting an asymmetry between them. It is done either when there is an embarrassment during sexual courses, or when practicing sports or to get dressed.

The surgery is done either with general anesthesia or regional anesthesia (epidural or spinal block).
According to a specific procedure, exceeding part of the labia minora is removed, and the remaining part still has its suppleness. A hemostasis is performed, to make sure all vessels are fully coagulated. The suture is realized with absorbable material.
Usually, this surgery is done as an outpatient procedure (check in the morning / check out on the evening). A work leave of 1 week need to be planned.

Risks & Complications

In spite of the meticulous surgery technics, it is not possible to guarantee neither therapeutic success nor a total absence of any complications.

- Healing troubles: major risk is more about having partial or complete disconnection of the sutures, than large scars, hypertrophic scars or keloid Scars (raised scars).
- Bleeding or hematoma of the surgical wound site. It may rarely lead to another surgery.
- Altered sensations of the wound site. Some pain due to the healing process can also appear. It should solve by itself within a few months, but may persist (in case of nerve damages).
